This is a lovely little campground on Bowdish Reservoir in RI. very pleasant campgrounds, and the place is possitively lousey with chestnut saplings.

For those that don't know, the American Chestnut was the giant of the east cost of the US until it was destroyed by a blight similar to the Dutch Elm disease. It tends to attack the trunks of the trees, causing them to die. Most extant chestnuts in the US today are crosses between US and European or Chinese chestnuts. Those pure strain chestnuts are very small, off-shoots from the roots of dead trees.

They rarely survive long enough to produce nuts, and if they do they usually are not full nuts, but only the husk and infertile seeds.
